STEM Education

As stated in the STEM Education promotion document by Curriculum Development Council – Promotion of STEM Education – Unleashing Potential in Innovation, STEM is an acronym that refers to the academic disciplines of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics collectively. The promotion of STEM education aligns with the worldwide education trend of equipping students to meet the changes and challenges in our society and around the world with rapid economic, scientific and technological developments.

STEM education in our school context

aims at

  • strengthening students’ ability to integrate and apply knowledge and skills;

  • nurturing students’ creativity, collaboration and problem solving skills; and

  • fostering their innovation and entrepreneurial spirit as required in the 21st century.

Is mainly promoted by

  • renewing the curriculum of Science Education as a Key Learning Area (KLA); and

  • enriching learning activities for students.

Is implemented in the way of

  • designing learning activities based on topics of a KLA (i.e. Science) for students to integrate relevant learning elements from other KLAs (such as Information Technology and Mathematics)
